Not So Lady Like Talk …. Let’s Get Naked!

The “Not So” Lady Talk Series

Let’s be real for a minute. Stiletto wearing-cape flying-super women that we are struggle to find our place in women’s groups — ESPECIALLY within our faith. We don’t want to swap recipes and make crafts – that is what we use Pinterest for – and let’s be honest, group craft time is why we get out on Tuesday nights with the girls and pay for paint-by-numbers-and-bring-your-own-wine classes.

Your 30′s and 40′s are no longer what they were to our mothers. We are young and vibrant and ready to change the world. We cover our grays, stay fit and apply organic wrinkle cream to keep mother nature at bay. So, how can we get really down to the dirty raw stuff and still feed our spirits in groups?

Our goal with this series is to start giving ourselves the freedom to say this out loud.

We want to be spiritually fed. We want to go deep. And, we want to do it without borders and judgment. It’s going to be inappropriate, raw, and real. And, we may have choice words while doing it. We are so over playing nice, obligatory smiling, not meaning what we say, and keeping ourselves in society’s neat little boxes. Our generation wants more and we are not afraid to go after it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing is ever in vain!!, August 28, 2013

This review is from: Restitution (Paperback)

For anyone who has suffered at the hands of someone else…for those whose pain and abuse has been swept under the rug and ignored…for those who have struggled to believe that it was not their fault….I highly encourage you to read this novel written. Take back what was right fully yours to begin with….your innocence….and realize that “Nothing is in Vain!” Everything we endure makes us who we are. All too often, we suffer at the hands of abusers, but then the life that is born from that is expected to just forget. Tess writes of her abuse and struggles, but shows we can all have Restitution! This book encourages all of us to make the journey across the bridge, and shows us the freedom that awaits us on the other side. This is not an easy book to read…it will rip your heart out piece by piece. But, by the end, it shows us that we each have the power within ourselves to piece it back together, stronger than ever!!

Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life! by Guest Blogger Madelaine Memmer

our_thoughts_hold_power_igniteyourtruth

Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

Colossians 3:2

There is something that is so incredibly powerful inside each of us that it can actually dictate the course of the experiences in our lives.  I’m talking about the mind!  We have thousands of thoughts every single day, even while we sleep.  Many times we’re not even aware that we’re having them…and that’s actually part of the problem.

The thoughts we have hold much more power over our daily lives than we often realize.  According to “A Course in Miracles,” every single thought creates form on some level.  Now with that being said, I’d like you to think back to some of the thoughts you had today, particularly the repetitive ones.  If they sounded anything like this, “God, I freaking hate my huge thighs.  I’m so fat!” or “I’m so broke!  I can’t even afford to put gas in my car!” then we obviously we have a problem here.  You are essentially putting in your order to God/the Universe to have fatter thighs and to stay broke.  Is that really what you want?!

I know from experience that it can be difficult to change your patterns of thoughts.  At times it feels like we are not in control of them.  Believe it or not, you can actually choose your thoughts.  You can decide if you want to align your thoughts with love or with fear.  Thoughts of love are all the thoughts that are based in faith, trust, compassion and truth while thoughts of fear are those based on lack, limitation, anger and delusion.

Perhaps this is a revolutionary idea for you or perhaps like me, you’ve heard this many, many times, and yet still have trouble putting it into action all the time.  The first step in the process of aligning your thoughts with love is awareness.  Before you can change your thoughts, you have to monitor them and become conscious of the repetitive thoughts that you have.  Most of us live completely unconscious when it comes to our thinking.  We monitor what we eat, what we wear, what we say and what we do, yet we tend to let our thoughts run wild—completely out of control!

There is a real foolproof way to see what thoughts you’re holding regularly: simply take a look at your life!  If you’re having financial, health, and relationship problems, it’s important to realize that those things didn’t just happen to you which is what many of us would like to believe.  You actually chose those experiences with your thoughts!  I know that’s a tough pill to swallow, but the good news is that if you can create chaos with your thoughts, you can also create all the love, joy, and abundance that you desire.

I have experienced the effects of what is often called the “Law of Attraction,” many times throughout my life (in both positive and negative ways!).  This Law of Attraction simply breaks down to the fact that everything is energy and that “like attracts like.”  This means that your thoughts and emotions are like magnets that attract experiences of a similar energy and literally manifests them into reality.

A few years ago, I went to this amazing weekend seminar that was extremely healing and life changing.  At the event, the teacher began talking about his upcoming week-long retreat in Costa Rica and I absolutely knew that I had to be there.  The only problem was that I wasn’t working at the time and I was flat broke!  However, my intuition which I believe is God speaking to us, told me with strong certainty that I was going on this retreat.  I had absolutely no idea how this was going to happen, but as one of my favorite teachers always says, “The ‘how’ is none of your business.”  With every bit of faith I had in me, I put down a deposit of $100 which at the time was nearly all I had in my bank account.  The next day I was feeling a little doubtful that I could come up with the money for the retreat and the airfare.  However, I made a choice to block out those negative thoughts of doubts and decided to believe that it was possible.  When I called my girlfriend to tell her about this amazing seminar and my leap of faith, she was so touched that she donated $150 towards my trip!  I was in complete awe!

The Give Up Hotel: Have you Checked In or Out?

hotel

For the last week, I checked in to a placed called The Give Up Hotel. The service as you can imagine sucks, the air in the room is stale and it hasn’t been redecorated in decades. There is no such thing as room service – everything that happens here you take care of yourself. You choose to check in and you choose when to check out.

I’m not depressed for those wondering. I’m exhausted. I’m tired of holding it all together. I want to throw a tantrum that would make any three year old jealous as I stomp my feet into the floor for attention.

So here I sit. I checked in to this place to sulk, maybe find some clarity, and hoping that something in the outside world – my world – would change for the better by the time I chose to check out. Guess what? It has been a week and nothing has changed. I don’t know if I’m more frustrated with my circumstances or the fact that I removed myself and checked in to this lousy escape.

A week of poor sleep on this squeaky, no support bed; cutting myself off from others; looking for answers in mind numbing activities so I didn’t have to deal. That’s right. The woman who has the encouraging and challenging words for everyone else just told you she buried her emotions and ideas for a week in order to be numb to the world around her. Not healthy, I’ll be the first to admit. And, certainly not a solution.

Life sucks and it is never fair. Sometimes there are not answers staring you back in the face the second you ask a question. Sometimes you have to make choices that don’t excite you. Sometimes the wait is hard and the emotions in those moments are devastating. Sometimes you feel like a zombie who hasn’t slept in months and all you want is a break. A breather. A reprieve. Or, even a brand new life far, far away from anyone who knows you.

Life is hard and full of things that infuriate us. But, at least we are alive. At least we feel. Because with every struggle we grow, we stretch, we learn, we move forward, we fight. We have the choice to engage with our moments. We have a choice to not be stuck.

So as I walk back out through the door towards my reality, past the broken ice machine and the barely functional sign flashing “Vacancy”, I can’t tell you that I’m done with this attitude of mine. But, I can say that I’m making a choice to engage it, deal with it and win. I am a fighter. I don’t give up.

“Here I go again on my own. Walking down the only road I’ve ever known….” is piping through my mental speaker as I trudge back towards my path to complete this journey. Truth? We are never alone. Sometimes it looks like it when we glance around the landscape of our path but we are not. Focus on the horizon and press forward. Stumble and dust yourself off. Join with fellow travelers and guides on the road of Life. Stay true to who you are and live life fully along the way.

>>> Let’s start an authentic conversation around the moments we look to throw in the towel >>>>

COMMENT FROM READER:

Kris Buringrud Johnson You, lovey lady, are doing exactly what you are supposed to be doing, laying it out in the open, being authentic, transparent and vulnerable…everything that you are teaching us to do. I was raised to set the example for others (Easier said than done). This post, is setting the example for the rest of us. It is easy to verbalize celebrations, but lets not be afraid to admit when we are scared, frustrated, stuck, lonely, angry…there is absolutely nothing wrong with those feelings, they are natural, normal, and dare I say it…healthy. But, what isn’t right, is staying in them for too long, we must move forward, just as you are doing, and the best way to move forward is to be brave enough to ask for help or to find help. The first step for many who are scared, unsure, frozen, is simply to join a group and sit back and listen/watch/read the conversations regarding the experiences of others and how they overcame their obstacles, their mountains. Even though someone might not be actively joining the conversation, doesn’t mean that they are not reaping the rewards of the conversation. Slowly but surely those who are absorbing will reach out themselves, will begin to ask for help, advice, they will contribute their stories, their failings and their successes. So I am right there with you let’s start authentic conversations about when we want to throw in the towel….anybody with me?

Do You Hunger for Healing From Adoption or Childhood Abuse?

Restitution is a bold novel that rips the secrecy of child-hood abuse from the hidden mask of shame. Out in the open, scarred and true for all to see, this based on a true story novel will not only redeem all who have suffered from abuse but will offer something we’ve all hungered for. Purpose. For nearly twelve years Tess was the victim of child hood sexual abuse. First, it was her Pastor; the man of God who told her that the devil was making her do bad things. Then, her Uncle and her cousin. For years Tess struggled to believe that God was a loving God. Did He not notice what she was enduring? Once a victim of abuse, her life spins out of control as she is haunted by the demons of un-worth. She’d become her own abuser. Sacrificed her first born son into adoption. Left home at only fourteen. Homeless, and then pregnant again on the streets. Would it ever end? Would she ever find purpose in the pain? It turns out, nothing is ever in vain. Tess discovered a path back. Will you go with her?
